Isaac Asimov was the first to talk about robotics in his science fiction stories of the 1940s and for this reason he is known as the father of the three laws of robotics. From science fiction to reality is a short step: today robots are, for all intent, a part of our daily life.
Robotics: humanoid robots and non-humanoid robots
In the industrial sector, robots often help humans in the heaviest or most precise jobs but the machines do not have human features. To the contrary there is an entire branch of robotics that develops humanoids of various types: we are talking about social and assistive robots with educational, entertainment, welcoming or information functions.
Social robotics originates from the way people act and how people communicate with each other. We can therefore say that in the design of social robots people and communication are the main inspiration.
In the civil robotics sector, social robots provide useful services for the well-being of people in non-productive environments such as in shops, hospitals, offices, airports, stations and in all those contexts of use where information is required.
Omitech robotics division
In 2013 Omitech began a process of experimentation and research in social robotics for the development of new business opportunities, becoming one of the pioneer companies in the distribution of robots in Italy. Omitech’s business sectors develop in the areas of social robotics, service robotics and collaborative robotics
Omitech collaborates with public and private research institutes to develop and test its robotics solutions. Omitech has taken part in projects and experiments with the Federico II University of Naples, the University of Turin and the University of Padua, the Nemo Clinical Center for Neuromedicine and the Italian National Research Council.
Omitech Robot: our Vision
It is right to start from an assumption: social robotics does not replace humans, but supports them, improving productivity and allowing new services. People are relieved of repetitive tasks, perfect for a machine, but frustrating for a human being.
The spread of artificial intelligence services increases the computational needs associated with it: the solution is to reduce the obsolescence of machines. But how? Omitech considers successful a cloud-based robot architecture because it allows lighter robots at a lower cost with a higher operating autonomy.
We can affirm that today there is no universal robot. This is why Omitech selects different robots on the market, with different shapes and specifications, in relation to different scenarios of use and required interaction.
Sanbot Elf
Since 2016 Omitech has been distributing the Sanbot line of social robots in Italy. Sanbot is a cloud-enabled service robot, with an high artificial intelligence. This feature make it perfect for commercial, education, healthcare and hospitality sectors. Sanbot features are multiple: remote motion control, facial expression cameras, human detection, projector, voice and facial recognition and voice localization.
